Who We Are and What We Do

The Museum of Craft & Folk Art (MOCFA) is a private, nonprofit (501c3), membership-driven museum. MOCFA provides innovative exhibitions and educational programs that are designed to connect with and inspire diverse communities.
In 2004, the Folk Art in the Schools program was awarded a prestigious National Endowment for the Arts grant, and American Express named the Museum of Craft & Folk Art at Fort Mason Center as the museum to visit when you come to San Francisco.

As the only folk art museum in Northern California, MOCFA is known for:

• A rich offering of focused and unique exhibitions of traditional and contemporary folk art and craft from around the world
• Demonstrating how folk art, contemporary craft, and fine art are all part of the same continuum
• Educating 10,000 elementary and middle-school students per year through our highly regarded Folk Art in the Schools program
• Supporting and promoting artists through our exhibitions, educational programs, and publications

Sharing the Museum with New Audiences

This year the Museum of Craft & Folk Art is joining the museum district on Yerba Buena Lane in downtown San Francisco — see the map on the next page (link below). Our new location will expand our audiences significantly by:

• Showcasing local and international contemporary craft and folk artists in a highly visible location
• Attracting tourists and convention visitors who otherwise would not be able to attend our exhibitions and shop in our museum store
• Increasing attendance at public programs as well as student accessibility with our central location and proximity to various modes of public transportation
