Juxtapose: Fashion Into Art
Saturday, October 4, 2008
11am - 5pm
(Members shop FREE and early! 10am- 11am)
The Museum of Craft and Folk Art will host its annual fashion sale, Juxtapose: Fashion Into Art on Saturday October 4, from 11am – 5pm at Market Square, 1355 Market St. between 9th and 10th Street in San Francisco. For fifteen years, the Museum has hosted ten similar fashion sales under the name of Art to Wear, each more successful than the last. This year Juxtapose brings the best of Bay Area fashion, jewelry, and accessories under one roof, for one day only, to provide a distinctive shopping event for savvy fashionistas.
The clothing, accessories and jewelry for sale at Juxtapose showcase unique, handmade pieces of wearable art that combine contemporary fashion design, traditional techniques and sustainable practices. Artist Cybele Chang commissions exquisite embroidery work from artisan-run cooperatives in the Guizhou Province of China to help them earn an income in an area where economic opportunities are scarce. Ocelot Clothing employs ancient itajime dyeing techniques on their one-of-a-kind contemporary clothing designs to mesh old with new.
A portion of the proceeds from Juxtapose benefit the Museum’s exhibition programs. Please join the Museum of Craft and Folk Art in supporting these acclaimed designers, whose skill and extraordinary creativity keep the Bay Area fashion scene vivacious and exciting.
