American Symbols
May 9-August 3, 2008 (new opening date)

The evolution of the American flag is a story waiting to be told. The flag has been subjected to countless graphic interpretations over its 223 year history, each version owing more to the personality of the maker than to established formal convents. Nowhere are these changes better viewed than in the collection of graphic designer Kit Hinrich’s 3000 piece flag collection. It includes depictions on pencils, fans, Christmas ornaments, penknives, compacts, belt buckles, and contemporary art.
