Internships
The Museum of Craft and Folk Art provides exhibitions and educational programs to enrich and inspire, honor cultural traditions past and present, and celebrate the creative spirit.
The Museum is a non-profit organization with a close-knit, dedicated staff committed to providing an enriching internship experience. Each intern will be immersed in the Museums culture, and be given the opportunity to go above and beyond the traditional internship experience by being an integral part in the Museums internal systems.
Qualifications for participation in the program include a background and/or interest in art, excellent written and verbal communication skills, computer proficiency in a PC platform (basic Microsoft Office Applications), dependability, responsibility, and a strong work ethic.

1. ADMINISTRATIVE INTERN
REPORTS TO: Office Manager
SCHEDULE: 1
Day/Week; Internship Program Session (Spring, Summer, Fall/Winter).
PAY RATE: N/A
The Administrative Intern provides clerical support to museum staff including filing, copying, mailings, data-entry, reception and administrative projects. Responsible for assisting in the maintenance of the membership database, and generating membership thank you letters, renewal requests and membership cards. Assists with event planning and preparation as well as light janitorial office upkeep.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• BFA/BA in art or art history or related field
• Clerical skills (basic filing, copying, faxing)
• Computer proficiency (PC platform, Microsoft Office Applications)
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Dependable and able to work well within a small team.

2. COMMUNICATIONS INTERN
REPORTS TO: Director
SCHEDULE: 1 Day/Week; Internship Program Session (Spring, Summer, Fall/Winter)
PAY RATE: N/A
The Communications Intern will be a huge part in developing an audience for the Museum of Craft and Folk Art. The intern will assist with writing press releases, developing web updates, writing and sending mass emails, and helping maintain the email list and post online listings for the Museum. The intern assists in researching artists to prepare and edit copy for published materials, assist the website manager with web updates, and develop and maintain press contacts. The Communications intern will also develop press kits and releases, and help design and implement community outreach strategies.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• BA/BFA in art, art history or related field
• Excellent organization skills
• Experience and/or interest in art
• Computer proficiency (PC platform, Microsoft Office Applications)
• Excellent phone skills (cold calling may be required)
• Dependable and able to work well within a small team.

3. CURATORIAL INTERN
REPORTS TO: Director and Guest Curator
SCHEDULE: 1 Day/Week; Internship Program Session (Spring, Summer, Fall/Winter)
The Curatorial Intern will be an integral part of the planning and execution of exhibitions. The Curatorial Intern will assist the Guest Curator and Director with research and development of current and upcoming exhibitions. The intern compiles information and materials about the artists involved in the exhibits, and gathers support materials for the exhibit. Moderate lifting is required, during installation/de-installation of new exhibitions.

4. INFORMATION DESK/CULTURAL COMMERCE INTERN
REPORTS TO: Store Manager
SCHEDULE: 1 Day/Week; Internship Program Session (Spring, Summer, Fall/Winter)
The Information Desk/Cultural Commerce Intern offers outstanding customer service to visitors of both the museum gallery and the museum store in a courteous, sincere, and professional manner. This position provides information to the pubc about current, past, and upcoming exhibitions as well as museum membership, the School Program, and special events. In addition, the Intern educates Museum Store shoppers about the locally-made, hand-crafted art, in addition to international folk art, created through traditional techniques and materials from indigenous cultures.
